Integrated Solution For Translation

About Us

Babel is fast approaching the 50th anniversary of its founding. In those fifty years, we have engaged in a wide range of business endeavors related to translation, from education and the publication of our periodical, The World of Translation, to publishing books in translation, brokering publication rights, and offering translation and interpretation services. For the next fifty years, our 100-year plan is to broaden the meaning of “translation” to offer dynamic linguistic solutions by developing and integrating various technologies. In this way, we hope to support clients in all aspects of multicultural communication.

To do this, we cannot stop at translation, but must also utilize interpretation. We cannot stop with the medium of writing, but must engage visual media as well. We cannot stop at human translation, but must embrace AI and machine translation tools. Moreover, there is more need than ever for multilingual translation and interpretation, as well as company-wide communication seminars and other forms of linguistic support. It is our intention to offer such integrated solution for translation in the age of globalization.

Indispensable to achieving this goal will be our network of over 300 graduates from Babel Professional School of Translation (est. 2000, USA), who are now professional translators based in 22 countries around the world.

As part of our 100-year plan, it is our sincere desire to stay close to our clients and offer the most effective globalization support based on a forward-looking understanding of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Babel Transmedia Center (BTC) is a Translation Service Provider comprised of professionals who have graduated our former U.S.-based professional school, Babel University Professional School of Translation, and who have attained specialized qualifications from the Japan Translation Association (JTA). Our comprehensive translation process begins with project creation and systematically proceeds into the phases of initial translation, revising, review, and completion—all of which are supervised by a specially appointed project manager. Through this thorough method of project management, we offer customers the highest quality of translation.

Service Introduction

eTrans Technology: Babel’s Core Policy on the Future of Translation

eTrans Technology is a unique concept developed by Babel to empower translators through the intelligent use of technology. It represents an integrated framework of tools, practices, and philosophies that support translators in enhancing both the quality and efficiency of their work.

A Vision Rooted in Experience

Babel has been at the forefront of translation technology since the early 1990s. In response to the first wave of machine translation (MT), we launched the Babel MT Project in 1990 to explore the practical applications of MT in professional translation. By 1991, we had already established the MT Specialist Training Program to develop human resources capable of working effectively with these emerging technologies.

Over the decades, Babel has remained committed to bridging human expertise and machine assistance. In 2000, we formally coined the term “eTrans Technology” to define our translator-centric approach to digital transformation. This philosophy is deeply embedded in our training, publishing, and service models today.

What is eTrans Technology?

eTrans Technology is not just about using tools — it's about mastering them. It encompasses a wide range of technologies that are now essential in modern translation workflows, including:

• CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) Tools
Tools like Trados and MemoQ support consistency, leverage translation memory, and streamline multilingual projects.

• Machine Translation (MT) Engines
Services like DeepL and Google Translate can generate draft translations, which are refined through post-editing by professionals.

• Grammar and Style Checkers
Tools such as Grammarly and ProWritingAid help improve language quality and compliance with client-specific writing standards.

• Project Management Tools
These help coordinate teams, track progress, and manage deadlines in large-scale translation operations.

Embracing Innovation Without Replacing the Human Touch

Babel recognizes that technological breakthroughs such as Neural Machine Translation (NMT) and generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT) are revolutionizing the industry. However, our stance remains clear: technology should support, not replace, the human translator.

We emphasize the importance of post-editing skills, critical thinking, and contextual judgment—capabilities that no AI has yet mastered. Our mission is to help translators evolve into Translation Technologists: professionals who are not only linguistically skilled but also technologically fluent.

Our Guiding Principles

1. Human-Centered Translation
The translator remains at the heart of the process. Technology is a tool—not a substitute—for human judgment.

2. Skills for the Digital Age
We train professionals who can confidently navigate CAT, MT, and AI-driven tools.

3. Bridging Practice and Education
Our training programs reflect real-world trends and equip translators with immediately applicable skills.

4. Commitment to Continuous Learning
We provide ongoing updates, research, and insights to ensure translators stay ahead of the curve.
